Mayanexir has antibacterial effects. Pistachio hull’s aqueous crude and purified extracts inhibited the growth of Gram positive bacteria (Bacillus cereus) with MIC of 1.0and 0.5mg/mL, respectively. The Mayanexir has strong antibacterial properties and it can be used as an herbal and antibacterial product and it can be widely used in various industries, including the production of detergents, cleaners, cosmetics, etc.
Antioxidants are the compounds that, when added to food products, especially to lipids and lipid-containing foods, can increase shelf life by retarding the process of lipid peroxidation, which is one of the major reasons for deterioration of food products during processing and storage. Synthetic antioxidants such as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) have been used as antioxidants since the beginning of this century. Restrictions on the use of these compounds, however, are being imposed because of their carcinogenicity. Thus, a need for identifying alternative natural and safe sources of food antioxidant is created and the search for natural antioxidants, especially of plant origin, has notably increased in recent years.
Great interest has recently been focussed on the addition of polyphenols to foods and biological systems, due to their well known abilities to scavenge free radicals (i.e., antioxidant power).
Aqueous and methanolic extracts of pistachio hull are rich in phenolics, which effectively retarded the deterioration of soybean oil at 60 'C, with efficiency comparable to the synthetic antioxidant BHA. Hull extract showed significantly higher levels of total phenolics, flavonoid content, and antioxidant capacity, compared to extracts from shell or kernel, which suggested that it could be an important and cost effective source of compounds with health protective potential.
Thus, the Mayanexir can be used as an herbal antioxidant, a good alternative for chemical antioxidants in a variety of food and medicine industries, shampoos and other cosmetics.
The results of antimutagenicity test showed that phenolic compounds of pistachio green hull have antimutagenicity activity against direct mutagen of 2-nitrofluorene. 2-Nitrofluorene, widespread in the atmosphere, is a direct-acting mutagen and carcinogen and its mutagenicity has been proved on experimental animals.
The results obtained indicate that pistachio green hull may become important as a cheap and noticeable source of compounds with health protective potential and antimicrobial activity.
